Responsible Play

Last updated: Mar 19, 2026

Prize competitions on Basecomp are structured as lawful non-gambling promotions under UK law. However, we recognise that competitive participation involving money and prizes can become problematic for some people. We take that responsibility seriously.

Age Restriction — 18+ Only

All competitions on the Basecomp platform are strictly for participants aged 18 and over. Merchants are required to enforce this as a condition of using the platform, and their terms and conditions must make this clear.

If you believe a competition on the platform is accessible to under-18s without appropriate age controls, please report it to us at [email protected] and we will investigate.

Spend Within Your Means

Prize competitions are a form of entertainment. The money spent on tickets should be money you are comfortable spending regardless of outcome. Before entering any competition, we encourage you to:

  • Set a budget and stick to it
  • Treat any prize as a bonus, not an expected return on spending
  • Avoid entering competitions impulsively or under emotional pressure
  • Never chase previous spending by entering more competitions to try to win it back
  • Take breaks — if you find yourself thinking about competitions frequently, stepping back is a healthy choice

Know the Odds

Every competition on Basecomp must publish the total number of tickets available and the ticket price. Your odds of winning the main prize are straightforward to calculate: if there are 1,000 tickets available and you buy 1, your chance of winning the main draw is 1 in 1,000. We encourage you to review these numbers before entering.

Recognising a Problem

Participation may be becoming a problem if you notice any of the following:

  • Spending significantly more than you planned, or more than you can comfortably afford
  • Feeling anxious, irritable, or low when you do not win
  • Concealing how much you spend from family or friends
  • Borrowing money or selling possessions to fund entries
  • Neglecting work, family, or other responsibilities because of time or money spent on competitions
  • Continuing to enter competitions even when you want to stop

If any of these apply to you, please reach out for support. These feelings are common and help is freely available.

Self-Exclusion

Our Commitment

Basecomp is committed to being a platform that prizes both transparency and responsibility. We will continue to develop features that help Merchants implement best-practice safeguards for their customers, and we expect every Merchant on our platform to take responsible participation as seriously as we do.
