Scheduling draws — automated vs live

Last updated: Mar 12, 2026 | 2 min read | Raffles & Draws

Basecomp supports two draw types. You choose when setting up your raffle and can change it until tickets are sold.

Automated draw

The winner is selected automatically by the system. You set a trigger:

  • Date-based — The draw runs at a specific date and time, regardless of how many tickets have been sold. Useful for charity raffles or fixed-end-date competitions.
  • Sell-out — The draw triggers the moment the last ticket is sold. Popular for prize raffles where you want maximum ticket revenue before drawing.

When the draw runs, the system decrypts the pre-committed winning position, identifies the ticket holder, and sends winner notification emails automatically.

Live draw

You trigger the draw manually from your dashboard. This is ideal if you stream the draw on social media or YouTube. The system will still use the cryptographic commitment — the winning position was locked before any tickets were sold — but you control exactly when the result is revealed.

To run a live draw: go to Raffles → [Your Raffle] → Draw, confirm tickets are closed, then click Run Draw.

Draw notifications

Winners are notified by email automatically when the draw runs. The email includes their prize details and next steps. A copy is also sent to your store's notification address.
